unlimted colors

You read that right! Direct to garment printing allows us to print designs with thousands of colours. In comparison to screenprinting and traditional print methods, it is an absolute game changer. Direct to garment is the best process for printing designs with a lot of shades that cannot be effectively reproduced through colour separation in screen printing.

small order minimums

Direct to garment printing automates much of the pre-production process and removes the costly setup associated with preparing a design for screenprinting. This allows us to print as few as 3 t-shirt with your own custom design. As long as we are provided with a high resolution JPEG or PNG file (minimum 150 PPI at desired print size), we can have your idea printed on a shirt in no time!

cotton garments only

Direct to garment printing works best with 100% cotton garments or those with a high percentage cotton construction (ideally at least 75%). This is because the water based ink adheres best to cotton's natural fibres. Some poly/cotton blends can still produce good prints, but we recommend 100% cotton for the best results. For more information on this, see the fabric section below.

we are helotes Texas first direct to garment printers

As the most recent addition to our suite of decorating methods, the Brother GTX Direct to Garment (DTG) printing system offers top-tier print quality at affordable prices with super vibrant colours and durability.

In direct to garment printing, our machinery directly applies ink onto a t-shirt with its duel White/CMYK print heads. DTG uses environmentally friendly, water-based inks, which are absorbed by the fibers of the garment, leaving a very soft, smooth feel to the shirt. This means that we can print large designs on soft, light t-shirts without the final product feeling too heavy or uncomfortable to wear, as oil based screenprinting can sometimes result in.

Since the DTG printer is ultra precise and high resolution, you’re able to print images in much higher detail than traditional screen printig, and you’re not limited in the number of colours or shades you can use. There are an unlimited amount of options to customize your print and unleash your creativity.

DTG is also a great option for those who don’t have a  large budget to make an up-front investment for a large order of shirts as there are small order minimums.

We use a Brother GTX Direct to Garment printer at CPM and are proud to be the first shop to introduce this technology to Helotes Texas.

Our machinery is equipped to handle highly complex and multicoloured orders, skipping the costly and time consuming process of colour separation and screen preparation that screen printing entails.

Direct to Garment printing allows us to load your design directly from our computer to our machine's printing software, simplifying the process tremendously. From there, we follow this quick set of steps to ensure that every print comes out in great quality.

First, shirts receive a quick pre-press on our heat presses to ensure any extra moisture or wrinkles are removed before the printing process begins. For dark coloured garments, we then apply a pre-treat solution to the fabric to act as a base layer for ink binding. This is done because for dark coloured garments, our printer initially lays a base layer of special white ink before the CMYK print colours are added. The pre-treatment solution helps this ink bind to the shirts fibres and ensures that no matter how dark the actual garment colour is, the ink colours in the design remain vibrant in the final print.

This additional layer ensures that designs really "pop." Once the garment has been pre-treated and heat sealed, it is loaded into the direct to garment printer and the printing process begins.

Direct to Garment is perfect for extremely detailed designs and comes highly recommended by our team if you’re looking for a great, long-lasting print.  Check out the videos below to see how fast the process is and for some details on the differences that direct to garment printing can make versus traditional screenprinting.

a final note on fabric content

This printing process is most suited for garments that are 100% ring spun cotton. If you are aiming to achieve the most crisp, bright and opaque look for your design, we recommend sticking with 100% cotton. This fabric usually leads the the best final print due to its tight weave. There can be exceptions to this as some cotton garments (especially fleece) are much thicker and absorb the ink and results in a more faded and vintage look.
